Bill C-11. NO! Stop trying

Well look it's bill C-11, forgot all about that didn't you. What? You've never heard of it, well that's because it's been chugging along quietly and waiting to stop you in most of the ways that SOPA was to have. It is a terrible control heavy bill that is slated to pass here in Canada. This is bad, very bad and it will inhibit a large number of things most of us do every single day.

Want to know more in detail, look no further than Dr. Michael Geist. He is pretty much the defacto point of knowledge when it comes to all forms of copyright law. He eats, breathes, sleeps this stuff.
Check the link below.

Much like the American SOPA, it is a bill spurred on by the ignorance of the major media production organizations who fear the changes in media delivery. Instead of adapting and evolving with the  demands of the masses (think netflicks - cheaply available movies en mass) they want to restrict and control a medium they don't fully understand and haven't invested in adapting to.
This very same thing happened when VCR's began to hit the market, then again when CD burners hit the market and again when DVD burners hit the market.
They fear what they cannot control and instead of embracing and changing their business model they reach deep into their pockets and grease the palms of politicians to try and stop the advance of the medium of media delivery.
A good example of a change done right is Netflicks. A cheap monthly fee for the ability to watch a massive amount of T.V. and movies. If the major media outlets adapted a model such as this they would probably find a decrease in piracy and an increase in revenue.

Please check out the well written information above from Dr. Geist and then contact your local member of parliament and urge them to voice an opposition to the bill and vote NO on bill C-11.
You can also use this quick tool to email your MP and all the other levels of government.

Do a bit of reading and get informed and hopefully if enough of us raise some hell we will have it thrown out.
